Adult Career and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR)

Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) starts with the presumption that all individuals with disabilities can benefit from vocational rehabilitation services and should have opportunities to work in jobs integrated within their communities. Vocational rehabilitation counselors guide individuals through service programs they need to reach their employment goal.

Adult Career and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) offers access to a full range of employment and independent living services that may be needed by persons with disabilities throughout their lives.

It's important to note that a special education classification is not necessary to receive vocational assistance from ACCES-VR. An individual must have a disability that interferes with getting or keeping a job; be able to benefit from vocational rehabilitation services; need VR services to get, keep or advance at a job

Equipment Loan Fund for the Disabled

This brochure explains the various components of the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) Equipment Loan Fund where disabled residents of New York State are eligible. Money is loaned either directly to the disabled person or to another person responsible for the individual.

Helping Youth Build Work Skills for Job Success: Tips for Parents and Families

This InfoBrief addresses the need for youth to acquire work skills and offers strategies parents and families can use to work with their youth to develop skills that lead to success on the job. This InfoBrief also includes information on how to incorporate work skill development into school documents, such as the Individualized Education Program and the Summary of Performance.

NY Connects

NY Connects provides information and assistance related to long-term services and supports in New York State for people of all ages or with any type of disability. NY Connects uses a searchable directory for programs, providers, and services in your area.

NY Connects staff can help link you to long-term services and supports, such as home care, transportation and meals. The goal is to help individuals live as independently as possible while meeting their medical, social and functional needs that arise from aging or disability. This program helps individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals.

Contact your local office to:

  • Get information by phone, online, or in person.
  • Connect to long-term services and supports regardless of diagnosis, age or how you will pay for services.
  • Receive guidance and coordination as you go through assessment and eligibility processes.
  • Help with completing applications and enrollment in public assistance benefits, such as Medicaid.
  • Or for any additional information.

NYS Medicaid Speech Generating Device & Related Accessories Guidelines

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) includes all forms of communication (other than oral speech) that are used to express thoughts, needs, wants and ideas. People with severe speech or language problems rely on AAC to supplement existing speech or replace speech that is not functional. Speech generating devices and related accessories are covered when NYS Medicaid's minimum coverage criteria have been met. This document provides information on the coverage guidelines for speech generating devices and related accessories.

Schenectady County B-HOME Interactive Resource Locator

The B-HOME interactive resource tools have been created to help Schenectady area residents find resources located in and around the Capital District. The resources are organized and maintained by the Schenectady County Center for Juvenile Justice. The purpose is to give Schenectady area residents one location where they can locate main different services and agencies within Schenectady County and nearby areas. There are four options to explore:

  • Online Resources - Online resources and hotlines are used for resources that do not have a physical location such as yearly community-wide events, online communities, and hotlines.
  • Interactive Resource Map - The map utilizes technology to provide information about resources based on location. Categories of resource information on the map include Physical and Mental Health; Victim Services; Education, Child Care, and Youth Services; Housing, Food, and Clothing; Community Resources; Disability and Senior Services; Employment; Government; Legal and Financial Assistance; and Veterans.
  • Events - Featured upcoming events in Schenectady County and around the Capital Region are displayed on the event calendar. To add events to the calendar, contact the Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator
