ADA.Gov

The ADA requires the Department of Justice to provide technical assistance to businesses, State and local governments, and individuals with rights or responsibilities under the law. The Department provides education and technical assistance through a variety of means to encourage voluntary compliance. Activities include providing direct technical assistance and guidance to the public through this ADA Website and the ADA Information Line, developing and disseminating technical assistance materials to the public, and undertaking outreach initiatives.

ADA Information Line

The Department of Justice operates a toll-free ADA Information Line to provide information and materials to the public about the requirements of the ADA.  ADA Specialists, who assist callers in understanding how the ADA applies to their situation, are available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) and on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. (Eastern Time). Calls are confidential. To get answers to technical questions, obtain general ADA information, order free ADA materials, or ask about filing a complaint, please call: 800-514-0301 (voice); 800-514-0383 (TTY)

Alcohol Rehab Guide

The Alcohol Rehab Guide is an online resource created to help people struggling with an alcohol addiction find treatment when they need it most. The team at ARG is made up of recovering addicts and industry professionals who are dedicated to helping everyone find hope in recovery.

ARG provides life-saving information and guidance to help people suffering from alcoholism find and stay in recovery.

Disability Rights NY Hotlines & Resources

All requests for assistance are processed by DRNY's Intake Office. The vast majority of requests for assistance are received and processed by telephone or TTY. The intake office is available to conduct telephone or in-person intake interviews Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m, and includes Spanish speaking staff.

Educational Resources to Address Substance Abuse

The NYS Department of Education (SED) and the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) have worked collaboratively to provide resources to assist individuals (any student, teacher, parent, or community member) look for help and support and answers to questions related to substances abuse.

Employment - A Guide for Transition Services

Most young people rely on caring adults to support them with guidance, housing and financial assistance, and ongoing emotional connections. Young people from foster care often miss out on these supports traditionally provided by families. They may also have added challenges due to earlier abuse, neglect, and separation. 

It’s My Life: Employment Guide offers specific strategies, tactics, and resources for youth and the adults who guide and support these youth to help them gain employment.

Find and Keep Housing for Transitional Age and Former Foster Youth

This Honoring Emancipated Youth Housing Guide provides practical advice on how to find and keep housing for transitional age and former foster youth. The guide was written by former foster youth, volunteers and community members. This guide is dedicated to housing and is a valuable resource to any young person, but especially former foster youth and disconnected transitional aged youth. This guide strives to provide guidance to youth ages 18-24 to procure safe and affordable housing.

Note: This guide was written for California youth, but was included here because of the valuable information contained within.

Graduation Requirements for Students with Disabilities

This page provides information on both high school diploma and non-diploma exiting credential options available to New York State students with disabilities. Information is provided on the course work, credit and assessment requirements students must successfully complete to earn a Regents or local high school diploma, including the various safety net options available to assist students with disabilities to earn a local diploma.
